The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
