The highly-awaited Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season introduces a diverse group of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with songs detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain themes emerge over and over: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner stated recently. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some really amazing disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
